Florham Park Eagle
“Vote for experience, not ideology, and re-elect Joanne Greene Tobias to the Hanover Park Board of Education.”
My name is Joanne Greene Tobias, of Florham Park, and I am running for re-election as the Florham Park representative to the Hanover Park Regional High School District Board of Education. I have served on the Board for the past 6 years. It is truly my honor to serve on the Board and represent the students, parents, and staff of this outstanding school district. I am running for re-election because I am proud of the work and leadership of our Board but we have more to do.
MY MESSAGE
I was most fortunate to serve on the Hanover Park Regional High School Board of Education during the time the athletic/sports complex was nearing completion at Hanover Park High School. Improvements to the sports complex are in progress now; and, I want to reassure you, I support these improvements.
It is so important to support our students in the classroom as well as in the sports arena whether it is indoor or outdoor sports. When I was a high school student, I was on the softball team, varsity swimming team and a cheerleader. As a teacher, I also coached high school diving/swimming team and was coach to girls’ basketball. As an educator and a coach, and now as a board member, I realized then, as I do now, that athletics truly does teach healthy habits, good sportsmanship, teamwork, citizenship, responsibility, and strong attributes needed to develop good character. I have always supported our athletic programs and will continue to do so when I am re-elected this November.
It is also vital to have a state-of-the-art curriculum available to all our students for them to prepare for college, vocational professions, the military and/or any other career area they choose to pursue for the future. Hanover Park Regional High School District offers quality curricular programs; and I am proud to say that not only have I served on the Board of Education Curriculum Committee, but I have also chaired it. I make it a priority to listen to the needs of the students, teachers, and administrators. I do not believe in “change for change sake.”
Our students are so fortunate to have a Board of Education, administration, teachers, and parents who also support student involvement in extra/co-curricular activities. Our academic teams continue to win top prizes while our marching band, choir and madrigals do the same. Keeping students involved in these activities (and we have a variety for students to choose from) reinforces their connection to other students in all grade levels.
My promise to the parents, students, staff, and other Board of Education members is to see Hanover Park High School remain a top high school in all areas. These are particularly challenging times right now; but, when it comes to our students, I know with your support, I can continue to represent them with the same strong values and ideals that you instilled in them! This is what you should expect of me; and this is what I expect of myself!
