Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
P..L. 114-95, 129 Stat. 1802 (2015). Like NCLB, ESSA is a reauthorization of the ESEA. The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), currently authorized as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015, is federal legislation that promotes student achievement through school and district reform. ESSA requires each state to develop and implement a system for holding all districts and schools accountable for the education of students.
No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB)
P.L. 107-110, 115 Stat. 1425 (2001). NCLB is mainly codified in Chapter 70 of Title 20, 20 U.S.C. § 6301 et seq. NCLB revamped the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, listed below, incorporating new provisions in areas such as standardized testing, accountability, and parental choice.
McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act,
P.L. 100-77, 101 Stat. 482 (1987). Subtitle B of Title VII of the act covers education and youth programs for homeless children, codified as amended in 42 U.S.C. §11431 et seq.
